FAQ

  • How does Wing Chun help me find personal balance?
Not only do we use this devastating Martial Art for combat purposes, but we take and incorporate those same principles into our own lives. Not only is Wing Chun heavily steeped in Buddhism and Confucius principles, but it employs the "Saam Faat" or "Path of the Heart" Method to help you and others gain balance in their lives. • What is Wing Chun?
Wing Chun is a scientifically proven combat based martial art. It utilizes human biomechanics, speed, positioning, and timing for self defense. It does not rely on strength. It was created by the female Buddhist monk Ng Mui for a woman who's name was Wing Chun. She taught that system to her husband and it passed down to Yip man (Ip Man). Yip Man is the most famous of all Wing Chun practitioners, a personal trainer to Bruce Lee, and the patron of lineage that our school comes from. Here is a photo of Bruce Lee being trained by Yip Man while in Hong Kong.
  • What makes Wing Chun effective?
Wing Chun capitalizes on multiple strengths and limitations of the human body. One such utilization is the principle of simultaneous attack and defense. Traditionally, a punch is thrown, and the defender, not wanting to get hit, "blocks" the attack and then tries to respond with an attack of their own. In Wing Chun Kung Fu, we defend with one hand, while attacking, simultaneously with the other hand. This, combined with several other principles, some of which are unique to Wing Chun, make Wing Chun in Elizabeth City an effective Martial Art.
